Kuraya stands on the shoulders of great free software. Nothing below is installed into Windows by Kuraya: the Setup window downloads a tool into Kuraya's own Tools folder or links to its installer, and every feature tells you when a tool it needs is missing. Thank you to all these projects.
Only FFmpeg is required; everything else is optional and unlocks extra features.
| Name | What Kuraya uses it for | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg + FFprobe | Required. Reads video length and quality, makes thumbnails, extracts audio for subtitles, the HEVC converter. | LGPL / GPL |
| FlareSolverr (via Docker Desktop) | Recommended. Opens movie sites that are protected by Cloudflare. | MIT |
| Ollama | Recommended. Local AI on your own PC: genre sorting, title clean-up. Nothing leaves your PC. | MIT |
| Python 3.12 | Recommended. Runs the helper scripts (OCR, audio fingerprints, anime-whisper). | PSF |
| Subtitle Edit + Faster-Whisper-XXL | Optional. Speech-to-text: turns the movie audio into subtitles (Whisper). | GPL-3 / MIT |
| fpcalc (Chromaprint) | Optional. Audio fingerprints — finds duplicates by their sound. | LGPL |
| Microsoft Edge (or Chrome) + Kuraya CF Cookie Bridge | Optional. A small browser extension that ships with Kuraya (Browser extension folder). It passes the Cloudflare "not a robot" check of the movie sites you visit in Edge to Kuraya, so scraping those sites works without FlareSolverr and is faster. Install: edge://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked → the Browser extension folder. | Kuraya / Edge: Microsoft |
| czkawka | Optional. A fast clean-up toolbox: finds look-alike duplicate videos (even re-encoded or resized), identical files, similar images, empty folders, broken files, files with the wrong extension, big files and temporary leftovers. | MIT |
| Tesseract OCR | Optional. Reads the language of burned-in subtitles. | Apache-2.0 |
| VideOCR | Optional. Copies burned-in subtitles out of the picture into a subtitle file. | MIT |
